The Power of One Hour: Transforming Your Ministry and Life

The Power of One Hour: Transforming Your Life through Intentional Focus

Hey, good morning everyone! Today, I want to introduce something new: a written blog post! I’m starting this to provide teaching moments and support for our district leaders, specifically our children’s leaders and youth workers in the West Florida District of the Assemblies of God. But I also want this to be available to anyone else in the world who wants to join in!

Our mission at the West Florida District is to encourage, resource, and equip our leaders, pastors, and churches to fulfill God’s purpose for them. And one of the ways we are doing that is through this blog. Today, I want to share some insights from a book that I believe would benefit our leaders. The book is called “10 Things Every Minister Needs to Know” by Dr. Ronnie Floyd.

Let’s dive right into it. In Chapter One, Dr. Floyd talks about the power of one hour. He shares a personal story about a profound encounter with a respected man of God who emphasized the importance of dedicating just one hour to God every day. The idea is that if we truly give ourselves to God for an hour, we will be amazed at what He can do through us.

Many times, our prayers are focused on asking God for things, but we forget to listen and allow Him to speak to us. The power of one hour goes beyond just prayer; it’s about giving ourselves fully to God and listening to what He wants to reveal to us. This principle can be applied to other areas of our lives as well.

Imagine the impact if we could focus intently on a task or goal for one hour. We often get caught up in distractions like social media or random thoughts. But what if we committed to laser-focused, concentrated effort for just one hour?

In the book, Dr. Floyd suggests a technique called the Pomodoro Technique, where you set a timer for a designated amount of time (even as little as 15 minutes) and commit to focused work for that duration. This technique helps train your mind to stay focused and be more productive.

By dedicating ourselves to God for one hour and applying this intentional focus to our daily tasks, we can achieve incredible things. Our focus determines our effectiveness in the world, just as discipline and focus go hand in hand to bring about life-changing results.

The power of one hour goes beyond prayer or work productivity. It has the potential to transform our entire lives. By allowing God to change us, we become more equipped to change the world around us. Before we can have a significant impact on others, God must first work within us.

Dr. Floyd outlines three key realities that emerge when we apply the power of one hour to our lives:

  1. Your walk with God influences every aspect of your life.
  2. As you deepen your relationship with God, your influence will expand.
  3. The power of one hour will have a profound effect on every area of your life.

Take the time in the morning to read your Bible, journal, and pray. Allow God to download His wisdom and guidance into your heart. Let your time with Him set the tone for the rest of your day. This intentional focus will shape your perspective and enable you to navigate challenges with greater wisdom and clarity.

Remember, you don’t have to start with a full hour if that feels overwhelming. Begin with whatever amount of time works for you and gradually increase it. The goal is to give yourself fully to God and witness the transformative power that emerges from that dedicated hour. Trust me; it will transcend into every area of your life.
