Hi everyone! Today, we have a special guest with us – Tara Crooks. Tara is not only a blogger, radio host, and podcaster but most importantly, she is a proud military spouse. In this interview, she shares her journey and some exciting news with us. Let’s dive in!

Jeff: Hi Tara, how are you doing today?

Tara: Hi Jeff, I’m doing great. Thanks for having me on your blog. I’m really excited to be here.

Jeff: Absolutely, and I think it’s important to acknowledge the sacrifices that military spouses make. Can you share your own experience or some experiences from the network about how tough it can be for military spouses?

Tara: It’s definitely not easy being a military spouse. Whether you’re new to this life or have been through multiple deployments, it never gets easier to see your spouse leave or to have your children wonder where their mom or dad is. But military spouses are some of the strongest people you’ll ever meet. We support each other and find ways to cope with the challenges. It’s a difficult life, but we’re tough and we can handle it.

Jeff: That’s true. Military spouses are often overlooked when we talk about supporting the troops. They deserve recognition for the important role they play. So, can you tell us how the Army Wife Network came to be?

Tara: It all started as a happy accident. During my husband’s deployment in 2004, I founded Army Wife Talk Radio on a whim. I wanted to do something meaningful and ended up starting a radio show with just 32 listeners. Over time, the network grew, and in 2009, we decided to bring all our parts together under one roof and call it Army Wife Network. We also embraced the power of social media and built a strong online community. We wanted to celebrate the joys and strengths of military life.

Jeff: That’s amazing. The book sounds like a beautiful celebration of military life. What inspired you to write “A Thousand and One Things to Love About Military Life”?

Tara: We wanted to showcase the positive aspects of military life. Despite the challenges, there are countless things to love and be proud of. We started with a small list and it grew into a beautiful work of art. The book covers different aspects of military life, from traditions to rewards. We even included journal pages where readers can share their own thoughts and experiences. Our goal is for readers to appreciate the pride and joy that comes with military life.
