Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
You can see a list of upcoming themes here.
Undying (Unearthed #2) by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner (January 8)
Trapped aboard the Undying’s ancient spaceship and reeling from what they’ve learned there, scavenger Mia and academic Jules are plunged into a desperate race to warn their home planet of the danger humanity’s greed has unleashed. From the mountains of Spain to the streets of Prague, the sequel to Unearthed is a white-knuckle ride that will send readers hurtling back to earth, and leave them breathless until the last page.Summary from Goodreads
Unearthed was such a fun read! Archaeology in outer space?! Yes, please. Not to mention, I’ll pretty much read whatever Amie and Meagan write.
A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer (January 29)
Fall in love, break the curse.Summary from Goodreads
It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.
Nothing has ever been easy for Harper Lacy. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.
Break the curse, save the kingdom.
A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.
I love this book so much. I can’t wait to get my hands on a finished copy (maybe 2?!). Review here.
If you’d like to get your hands on a copy, I’m guessing Spearcraft Book Box will have it in their January ‘Cursed Kingdoms’ box. Use my code ALISON to save!
Bloodleaf (Bloodleaf #1) by Crystal Smith (March 5)
Princess Aurelia is a prisoner to her crown and the heir that nobody wants. Surrounded by spirits and banned from using her blood-magic, Aurelia flees her country after a devastating assassination attempt. To escape her fate, Aurelia disguises herself as a commoner in a new land and discovers a happiness her crown has never allowed. As she forges new bonds and perfects her magic, she begins to fall for a man who is forbidden to rule beside her.Summary from Goodreaads
But the ghosts that haunt Aurelia refuse to abandon her, and she finds herself succumbing to their call as they expose a nefarious plot that only she can defeat. Will she be forced to choose between the weight of the crown and the freedom of her new life?
I love “The Goose Girl” so I’m clearly excited for a new retelling of it. I do own an ARC of it so hopefully I can get to it soon.
Rogue Moon (Cyber Crown #2) by Jessica Pierce
Summary from Goodreads
They destroyed Tesla’s world.
Now she’ll return the favor.
Weeks after the events of the Atlas, Tesla Petrov trains in the brutal gauntlet of the Restoration’s hidden base, vowing to avenge all those who were murdered aboard the space station. As one of the only witnesses to the shocking betrayal, she’s desperate to expose the true identity of the terrorist—until the traitor leaks incriminating video footage to every holofeed on Earth. With a bounty on her head, Tesla is running out of time.
When a ghost ship adrift in space gives her the chance to prove her innocence, Tesla must join forces with Tovin Zaile, the brooding rebel captain who sees her as nothing more than a reckless liability to the Restoration cause. But when the ship reveals a weapon neither of them expected, Tesla will be forced to fight two wars—one to save the crown, and the other to reclaim her heart.
Atlas Fallen was such a pleasant surprise! I initially bought it/read it to support Jessica who is a bookish ETSY shop owner. What I got was a very well done self-published book that fills that Lunar Chronicles shaped place in my heart. Can’t wait for the next installment!
Aurora Rising (The Aurora Cycle #1) by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman (May 7)
The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch…Summary from Goodreads
A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm
A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering
And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.
They’re not the heroes we deserve. They’re just the ones we could find. Nobody panic.
The only thing better than Amie and Meagan teaming up together is Amie and Jay.
