Great Audiobook Narrators

Audiobook fans know that a narrator can make or break a book. I’ve even been known to pick up an audiobook simply because of the narrator. Here are some recommendations of audiobook narrators that I enjoy plus one of their stories that I enjoyed.

Looking to try audiobooks? Consider Libro.fm. They offer a monthly subscription similar to Audible but it supports your local bookstore. Use my affiliate link to sign up.

Scott Brick

Brick is one of the big narrators. Looking at Goodreads, he’s narrated over 800 audiobooks. So far, Jurassic Park has been my favorite.

Christopher Eccleston

I’m a big Doctor Who fan. I literally only picked up The Whisper Man because he narrated it. Thankfully, the story was actually really good.

David Tennant

Continuing on with my love of Doctor Who, David Tennant naturally makes an appearance. I will listen to an audiobook simply to listen to him. Cressida Cowell’s books haven’t really worked for me despite absolutely loving the How to Train Your Dragon movie trilogy. If you’re looking to read to the How To Train Your Dragon series, you’re in for a treat.

Imogen Church

I came across Imogen when I stumbled upon Ruth Ware. She narrates many of Ware’s books. Her voice is quite nice. I love her British accent and the fact that she’s still easy to understand. Not all accents do well for long audiobooks (especially sped up). She’s another narrator that I’d listen to a book simply for her voice. The Turn of the Key is a modern retelling of The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.

Bonus Content: Nicola Barber, Jennifer Ikeda, & Steve West

These three narrators are “big” ones in the Young Adult audiobook world. They’ve narrated many of the popular books out there. If you’re not sure where to start with audiobooks & you’re a YA fan, I’d work backwards by looking up anything narrated by one of the three of them. More than likely one of those books is already on your TBR [or you’ve already read it and that’s a good starting place for an audiobook].

I don’t really have a specific recommendation for them but their voices are pleasant and clear. You can’t go too wrong with any of them (assuming the book is of interest to you).
