Day 1 – The Path to Enlightenment: Importance of Utilizing Time Properly and Meaningfully

Good afternoon everybody! I hope you’re all doing well. I want to talk to you today about the importance of utilizing time properly and living a meaningful life. As human beings, our time on this earth is limited, and it is up to us to make the most of it. We can either use our time in a meaningful and sensible way, or we can waste it on destructive activities. The choice is ours.

One of the main purposes of our existence is to make our time on this earth meaningful. We should strive to use our time in a way that brings us genuine satisfaction and helps others as well. Money alone cannot bring us true satisfaction. It is acts of compassion and kindness that give us long-lasting and genuine happiness.

As a Buddhist monk, I constantly evaluate how I spend my time and whether or not it is meaningful. I recently turned 78 and I want to make sure that I am using my time wisely. Last year, I received an invitation to participate in the Kumbh Mela pilgrimage, which only occurs every 12 years. I decided to go because I didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity. However, due to bad weather, my plans were postponed and I felt a little sad. This experience reminded me of the importance of making the most of our time while we still can.

In Buddhism, the ultimate source of happiness and satisfaction is compassion. By practicing compassion and showing kindness towards others, we can experience true and long-lasting satisfaction. Money and material possessions may provide temporary pleasure, but they will never bring us lasting happiness. It is our actions and attitudes of compassion that truly bring meaning to our lives.

Before we can teach others about the importance of utilizing time properly, we must first examine our own lives and see how we have been using our time. At almost 70 years old, I often reflect on how I have spent my time and whether or not it has been meaningful. It is important to make the most of every moment, dedicating ourselves to prayer and meaningful activities. By doing this, we can make our lives truly meaningful and purposeful.

The key to utilizing time properly is to live a life of compassion and kindness. By focusing on acts of compassion and showing genuine concern for others, we can experience true and long-lasting satisfaction. Money and material possessions may provide temporary pleasure, but they will never bring us lasting happiness. It is only by using our time wisely and dedicating ourselves to meaningful activities that we can truly make our lives meaningful. So let us all strive to make the most of our time and live in a way that is meaningful and satisfying.
