Earth 2 Vol.6 : Collision by Daniel Wilson and Andy Smith
Cataclysm has descended upon Earth-2, as the malevolent forces of Darkseid, previously thought to be beaten, launch a merciless attack. The very realm of Apokolips is waging war against our planet, with Darkseid’s Furies at the forefront of devastation. This dire hour holds the potential for humanity’s ultimate demise. However, our world is not without its defenders. Heroes such as Huntress, Power Girl, and Batman stand ready. The valiant soldiers of the World Army join the fight, as does Green Lantern and his fellow Earth Avatars, harnessing the boundless power of nature in all its forms.
Yet, it is the newly-minted sorcerer, Doctor Fate, who possesses the potential to drive back Apokolips and rescue our imperiled world. Armed with the mighty Helm of the ancient wizard Nabu, Doctor Fate could be the turning point in this clash against unimaginable darkness. However, if Darkseid’s minions were to claim the Helm, Earth would suffer under their tyrannical might. The balance of power hangs precariously.
World’s End has indeed arrived for Earth-2. This stunning narrative is brought to life by accomplished writers Daniel H. Wilson (Robopocalypse), Marguerite Bennett (DC COMICS: BOMBSHELLS), Tom Taylor (INJUSTICE YEAR THREE), and Mike Johnson (SUPERGIRL). Accompanying their riveting storytelling is the breathtaking artwork of Andy Smith (TEEN TITANS: FUTURE’S END). Join us in EARTH 2 VOL. 6: COLLISION as we witness the dramatic events that unfold in issues #27-32.
Earth 2 Volume 6 Collision Review: A Mess of Inconsistencies and Unresolved Plotlines
Welcome to today’s article, where we will be discussing Earth-2 Volume 6: Collision. This installment is the finale of the series, collecting issues 27 through 32. Written by Margaret Bennett, Daniel H Wilson, and Tom Taylor, this volume introduces a new creative team, which has led to some inconsistencies and confusion. In this article, we will explore the challenges that this series has faced due to the frequent changes in creative direction and the impact it has had on the overall story.
The Collision Course
Earth-2 has been on a turbulent journey, with different writers taking the helm and bringing their own unique vision to the series. While this can sometimes lead to exciting developments, in this case, it has resulted in a lack of consistency and coherence. The departure of James Robinson and the subsequent creative shifts have caused the series to lose its direction.
New Characters and Lost Potential
Volume 6 introduces several new characters, known as the Four Horsemen of Darkseid. These individuals come from different worlds and are meant to be a significant threat. However, after their introduction, they are criminally underutilized and fail to have any impact on the series. It is disappointing to see such potential go to waste.
Additionally, Earth-2 versions of Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon are introduced, only to disappear from the story without any resolution. This lack of follow-through with the characters complicates the narrative further and leaves readers feeling unsatisfied.
Confusing Continuity
The sudden appearance of Huntress and Power Girl, who were previously absent from the series, adds to the confusion. Without having read the World’s Finest series, it is difficult to understand how and why these characters have returned to Earth-2. A lack of proper explanation or integration with the main story leaves readers feeling lost and frustrated.
Unexplored Concepts
Earth-2 Volume 6 introduces interesting ideas such as avatars representing different colors and powers. However, these concepts are not given the attention they deserve. The explanations provided are inconsistent and at times contradict previous events in the series. This inconsistency further adds to the confusion and prevents readers from fully engaging with the story.
A Series in Disarray
Overall, Earth-2 Volume 6: Collision is a messy installment that suffers from changes in creative direction, unexplored plotlines, and a lack of coherence. While previous volumes had their flaws, this particular one fails to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the series. It is recommended that readers skip this volume and instead focus on the earlier installments for a more enjoyable experience.
