Eclectic Witchcraft – Charlotte Wilde: A Surprisingly Good Book for Beginners

Welcome back for another book review! Today we’ll be discussing “Eclectic Witchcraft” by Charlotte Wild: Old Ways for Modern Magic. At first, I wasn’t sure if this book would be any different from the rest, as it seemed quite basic. However, about halfway through, I was pleasantly surprised. I found myself marking numerous pages with intriguing information that I hadn’t come across before. What sets this book apart is the author’s attention to detail and practical explanations.

This book is definitely geared towards beginners, but that doesn’t mean it lacks valuable content. Charlotte covers a wide range of topics, from crystals in water to herbs and spell work. She provides a helpful list of common crystals to avoid putting in water, along with explanations as to why. I found this to be quite useful, as there were several crystals on the list that I wasn’t aware of. When it comes to spell jars, she guides readers on which items to include and offers advice on reusing certain materials.

One section that particularly caught my interest was astrology. Charlotte goes into great detail about natal charts, explaining the different aspects and houses. She even breaks down the generational and personal influences of different planetary movements. This chapter was not only informative but also well-written and easy to understand, even for someone like me who is not deeply knowledgeable about astrology.

Aside from astrology, “Eclectic Witchcraft” also covers Shadow work, providing prompts and practical methods for readers to engage in this introspective practice. The author’s ability to offer tangible guidance sets this book apart from others in the genre.

Throughout the book, Charlotte acknowledges the challenges faced by those who may be practicing in secrecy or limited spaces, offering advice on how to adapt rituals and practices to fit individual circumstances. It’s evident that she understands the diverse situations readers may find themselves in.

This is a newly released book, and I was fortunate enough to borrow a copy from the library. However, I am so impressed by it that I plan to purchase my own copy. The artwork featured in the book is also beautifully done, adding a visual element to the chapters.

In addition to writing, Charlotte has a podcast called Cosmic Cauldron, which I am excited to explore. As a fan of witchy podcasts, I appreciate hosts who engage in more than just interviews, and I’m hoping Charlotte’s podcast will offer a unique and informative listening experience.

“Eclectic Witchcraft” exceeded my expectations. It offers valuable knowledge and practical advice for beginners while also delving into more advanced topics such as astrology and shadow work. Charlotte’s writing style is engaging and conversational, making the book a pleasure to read. Whether you’re new to witchcraft or looking to expand your understanding, I highly recommend giving this book a chance.
