Origami Fun: Daily Models, Tips, and Tricks for a Year of Paper Folding

Thank you all for the incredible milestone of reaching 5,000 subscribers! It’s hard to believe that people are enjoying what I create. This Friday marks the three year anniversary of the beginning of my journey on YouTube. Instead of a traditional calendar, this year I opted for an origami one.

Each day, I fold a new origami model in the morning before work. This simple activity brings me joy and raises my spirits for the day. I highly recommend injecting a small activity like this into your morning routine to experience the same joy.

If you’re interested in seeing the models I’ve created so far, I’ve created an Instagram account where you can follow along. Now, let’s take a look at some of the models I’ve made and discuss the rules I’ve established for this project.

The Rules

I work Monday through Friday, and since the calendar combines weekend instructions, I fold three models every Monday to make up for the weekend. If a model is repeated or already done in the 2020 calendar, I skip it. In October or November, I may run out of unique models, so I plan to search for third-party models to ensure I reach my goal of 365 unique models by the end of the year.

Some models require different paper, like a dollar bill or printer paper, to achieve the desired size. To make it easier, I created templates to cut out the appropriate size of calendar paper.

The Paper Issue

The models are printed on the backside of the instructions, which poses challenges when a model requires the white side of the paper. In those cases, I use whiteout to cover the instructions. Some models include drawing eyes and faces, so I print and glue them onto the models for added personality.

I’ve encountered a few quality issues with the calendar, such as repetitive models and mistakes in the instructions. However, I’ve enjoyed the overall experience and find it to be a fun and relaxing activity.

Closing Thoughts

Overall, I’m having a great time with this origami calendar project. It only takes a few minutes each morning but brings me immense joy. If you’ve never tried origami before, I encourage you to give it a try. Adding a small, fun activity to your morning routine can make a noticeable difference in your mood and outlook for the day. Thank you once again for being a part of my YouTube journey!
