Infinity Gauntlet Omnibus Review: A Cosmic Marvel Masterpiece

Hey mentees, it’s the Uncanny Omar from Near Mint Condition! Today, I’m starting a series of in-depth article reviews that I like to call “Omnibus Retro Views.” And this particular article review is on the Infinity Gauntlet omnibus, which many of you requested. If you have any suggestions for other Marvel or DC articles that are already out of print or being reprinted, let me know in the comments below.

Before we begin, just a quick update: this series was supposed to start on Sunday, but unfortunately, I lost my voice after a live discussion with Maddie. But I’m back now and ready to dive into this article with all of you. Let’s take a look!

The Covers

There are two covers for the omnibus, and both will be available during the reprint. I chose the standard edition cover because it’s a classic and I usually prefer standard covers anyway. However, if the direct market cover had been from issue four, I would’ve gone for that one. Now, let’s move on to the spine and back covers of the omnibus.

Under the Dust Jacket

Beneath the dust jacket, you’ll find the iconic cover of issue one. This is the direct market cover, which I personally love. Let’s now open the omnibus and skip the discussion on the book’s build, as it may change during the reprint.

The Content

The Infinity Gauntlet omnibus collects several issues from the original Infinity trilogy: Silver Surfer 34-38 and 40, and 44-60. It primarily focuses on the rebirth of Thanos, his return, and the cosmic characters related to him. The first issue, Silver Surfer 34, marks the start of a new era and Jim Starlin, the creator of Thanos, returns to write the character once again. Thanos Quest one and two lead into the Infinity Gauntlet mini-series, issues one through six. Additionally, there are various crossover issues such as Cloak and Dagger 18, Spider-Man (the adjectiveless series) 17, Incredible Hulk 383-385, Dr. Strange: Sorcerer Supreme 31-36, and Quasar 26-27.

It’s worth mentioning that the omnibus also includes an early version of the Infinity Gauntlet issue three and two, featured in the extras section.

The Main Event

The primary focus of the Infinity Gauntlet omnibus is the epic clash between Thanos and the heroes of the Marvel Universe. Thanos, driven by his obsession with impressing Death, uses the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of the Earth’s population. Major characters return, heroes and villains team up, and the battle escalates to an unforgettable climax, especially in issue four. This omnibus allows readers to experience the team-up of team-ups and witness the unique ways Thanos uses the Infinity Gauntlet to deal with the heroes, such as turning Wolverine’s adamantium bones into rubber.

Extras

The Infinity Gauntlet omnibus includes several extras, such as cover art, articles, and trading cards related to the story. I won’t reveal them here to avoid spoiling the surprises for those who haven’t read the omnibus yet.

In Summary

The Infinity Gauntlet omnibus is a must-have for fans of the Marvel Universe. It collects key issues that revolve around the rebirth of Thanos and his cosmic journey. With its iconic artwork and captivating storyline, this omnibus offers a comprehensive reading experience. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the Marvel universe, this omnibus will leave you eager to dive deeper into the cosmic saga. So, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
